This is my Father, Herschel, born in Radom, Poland, who later became B166 in 1938.He survived Auschwitz, Majdenek, and death marches towards the end of the war.He was strong willed, which helped him to survive.He spoke briefly about how he his two Brothers and two Sisters were mudered.He was with his Brothers in camp until they died, but the day he was taken away, one Sisters and his Mother were shot in in front of him, the last Sister was taken away, he never saw her again. His Mother and Sister were actually spared the horror by being killed that day.How does one go on, I use to ask him?!I bought this book, and have more in my library, to learn more about his day to day struggle to stay alive in that hell. Rena’s story has given me more than I had already learned, and I thank her and Heather for that.I highly recommend this book to any second generation child of a survivor to learn more of their parents nightmare, if they want to know.I know many survivors did not speak about “it” to their children. My Father did, until my Mother stopped him when the tears came rolling down his cheeks.Stories I will never forget.I miss my Father, he died young. In a weird and sick way reading this book, and others like it, going to several camps, makes me feel closer to him.He wouldn’t be happy to know I went to Auschwitz, Birkenau, and Majdenak, but I had to see the camps for myself. He swore he would never step foot in Poland, or speak Polish ever again.Life goes on, and Rena’s spirt and her story help me with that.God Bless.
